Exhibition, Weekends with Nalda
Dec 8th, 2021 • Exhibitions • Rae Starr
WEEKENDS WITH NALDA was an exhibiton curated by Rae Starr at the Painted Tree Gallery, Northcliffe, WA for Southern Forest Arts.
The show was a celebration of connection between the Northcliffe arts community and Nalda Searle's teaching.
The show coincided with Nalda Searles' final Northcliffe textile workshop, held on the weekend of 5th to 7th November 2021. The exhibition ran from 30th October to 25th November.
"It has been an absolute privilege to curate this [group] exhibiton to honour Nalda's generosity as a teacher and creative mentor.
In considering how to visually present this work, and to express the energy and creative process we experience, I decided to represent the fertile, 'though seemingly chaotic, industry we experience at a weekend with Nalda.
One of my concepts was to create an installation, complete with the ubiquitous flynet, of a characteristic worktable where we distribute our materials and ideas, like some sort of flotsam, until they come into being, as insiration takes us.
The major decision to include unfinished, altered or new pieces inspired by the weekends has made the curation of this exhibition exciting, nostalgic and motivating and I thank all the contributors."
